Minnesota State Cattlemen's Association President Jake Thompson issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's post on Truth Social last Friday about beef imports:
"The Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association is disappointed and frustrated by the President’s recent comments regarding beef imports. We do not support government intervention that disrupts the marketplace or creates additional uncertainty for cattle producers and consumers.
Strong consumer demand is driving today’s beef market. Americans continue to choose beef because they value the quality, safety and nutrition of the product our cattle producers work hard to provide.
The last thing cattle producers need right now is additional uncertainty created by government action. Beef demand and sales remain resilient, even as consumers face higher prices across the grocery store and adjust their household budgets and spending.
While beef prices have received significant attention, consumers are seeing price increases across a wide range of products. The focus should not be placed solely on beef when producers and consumers are experiencing broader economic pressures.
Minnesota cattle producers are ready to rebuild their herds and meet strong consumer demand, but they need a level playing field, open markets and predictable market conditions. Government intervention that creates further uncertainty only makes that job more difficult."
